WELCOME TO “NATURALLY NICE”
ELIZABETHTON/CARTER COUNTY, TENNESSEE

Few places in the world exhibit as much natural beauty as upper East Tennessee. Nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain range at the confluence of two trout-bearing rivers, the Doe and the Watauga, the small town of Elizabethton is quaint, picturesque, and steeped in history. Carter County itself extends east and south of Elizabethton and grows from around 1500 feet in elevation to a height of 6285 feet near the spectacular balds of Roan Mountain. Surrounded by the lush Cherokee National Forest, etched by natural rivers, rippling streams, and bejeweled by the clean, cool waters of Watauga and Wilbur Lakes, Carter County offers the full breadth and depth of outdoor experiences to please fishermen, hikers, and all other nature lovers. The region experiences four relatively mild seasons, each of which offers special opportunities to experience not only nature but locally planned festivities and annual commemorations of historical events.
